Requirements can be imported from MS Excel™. Requirements correspond to the lines on MS Excel™ sheets. The partitioning of requirements into different MS Excel™ sheets reflects the affiliation of requirements to requirement sets.
The Excel Requirements Template is a sophisticated tool developed to help you collect and manage your requirements. Each requirement should correspond to one line whereas the columns are the possible attributes of a requirement.
There is no need to fill all attributes for every requirement. You may also use just a subset of the available attributes. This may either be the case because you do not know all the details of a requirement when you write it initially, or because you decide not to use certain attributes at all. Nevertheless you should use the first three attributes (ID, Title, Description), which are also tagged [required] to make a valid requirement. The headers of a row contain comments explaining the usage and syntax of the attribute which is shown in the row.
It is recommended that you should collect your requirements in semantic sets, each set corresponding to its own table or sheet in MS Excel™. Each MS Excel™ file and each of its sheets will be mapped to a Requirement Set during import.
However, if you are fancying a different structure, you can also import requirements from Excel without using this template, but pay attention to the correct mapping during the import.
To import requirements perform a right click on the root node of the project and select "Import..." in the popup menu. This will activate the import wizard.

Select Requirements from Microsoft Excel and click Next. On the next page you may select the file to be imported. Click Next.
Now you can map the columns in your Excel document and the requirement properties in ARCWAY Cockpit
The column names used inside your document will be displayed on the left side of the dialog. You can define the related requirement property with the help of a combo box or create a new Custom Property for the column. Furthermore you can determine value ranges for properties with a fixed value range.
Finally, click Finish and the requirements contained in the MS Excel™ sheet will be imported.
A separate requirement set is created for every imported file and for every sheet contained in the file. When importing a file or sheet for which a set already exists, the requirements in ARCWAY Cockpit are updated with the information contained in the file.
